FLOOR PLANS (Click here for some examples)

Floor plans by definition represent a horizontal section cut through a building at 1.5m height above the floor being considered. The accuracy of measurement will largely be guided by the purpose. There are three specific types of measurement with respect to Floor plans:-

An Unconnected Survey using simple methods which do not enable one part of the survey to be related to another. Its purpose would be for measurement of lettable areas on a room by room basis.

A Semi-Connected Survey is where one floor (normally the ground) is surveyed with all parts connected by instrumental control. Other floors are matched by assuming verticality of common features. Its purpose would include internal refurbishment without major structural alterations.

A Fully Connected Survey is where all parts of the building are connected by a common survey control network. This is the only method by which the true vertical and horizontal relationships between floors can be ascertained. Its purpose would be for major redesign and structural alteration.
